Scared Heart Girls College Oakleigh

The Sacred Heart Girls’ College Library serves the entire school community and aims to support, enhance and enrich the learning and teaching of our girls.

The Library plays an integral role in encouraging and equipping girls to be critical, competent users of print and electronic resources and assists in fostering a lifelong interest in and love of reading and the pursuit of knowledge.

The Library has distinct areas catering for students working within a class or undertaking individual research or private study. A bank of computers provides access to online resources and print facilities. The Library also provides areas for quiet study and class work, as well as teaching areas equipped with technology.

An extensive fiction collection with a strong focus on contemporary adolescent literature supports our goal to encourage reading for pleasure; a goal further enhanced by participation in the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the fortnightly activities of the Book Club.

The Library also manages the Hire Book system for Years 7 - 9 whereby each student in these year levels borrows their text books for the school year in each of the core studies.

During the school term, the Library is open from 8.00 am – 4.00 pm each day and during the term breaks, it is open for one week. Students are encouraged to use the resources in order to meet their curriculum, information and recreational needs.
