Tournament of Minds International Final

For the third consecutive year, the Sacred Heart Girls’ College Social Sciences Team was invited to represent Victoria at the International Championships held in Sydney. The team competed against students from other Australian States and Territories as well international teams from New Zealand, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. Out of the 1,469 teams who competed both nationally and internationally, our students were amongst the top 73 to get to this stage of the competition.

On the Friday, students attended the Opening Ceremony at the White Bay Cruise Terminal. There, they had the opportunity to hear from Australian cinematographer, Rhiannon Bannenberg, who stressed the fundamental skills they are learning through the tournament which will serve them well in life beyond. They then participated in scavenger hunt around Circular Quay, after which, they had the opportunity to sightsee.

The competition itself was held on Saturday at the University of New South Wales. The students only had three hours to solve their Long-Term challenge. In this time, they also had to present a solution to a mystery Spontaneous Challenge to a panel of judges.

We received Honours this year, placing second in our discipline. A remarkable effort!

Congratulations to the following students on an outstanding achievement:

Georjenna & Erica (Year 9), Serena, Olivia, Irene, Kayley & Edwina (Year 10).
