Always striving upwards

Teaching in Vietnam

In the Term 3 September holidays, our staff; Basia Quill, Fiona Smith and Max Tribe, had the opportunity to teach English to the RNDM Sisters and Community in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

We taught English classes Monday to Friday. The focus was to build students’ conversational skills in the English language to empower the Sisters in their missions abroad. We embraced the daily routine of the Sisters and the broader community through participating in Mass, greeting and exercising with the kindergarten students, assisting with meal preparation, evening prayer, general observations and conversations during mealtimes with the community. The meals were certainly a highlight for us. Over breakfast, lunch and dinner, we exchanged stories, interests and cultures. We learnt much about the RNDM system of becoming a Sister and the work they do at home and abroad for their missions.

We had the opportunity to visit the women’s shelter where we met expecting and young mothers experiencing hardship. We had an eye-opening experience and gained an immense amount of perspective. We gained valuable insight to the passion and dedication the Sisters have for their mission work and the work of the RNDM. We were overwhelmed by the Sisters hospitality, kindness and pure selflessness in their work and all that they do. We undoubtedly leave Vietnam, completely inspired and in awe by the work of the RNDM women in Vietnam.

Thank you Sacred Heart Girls’ College for supporting and providing us with this opportunity.
