The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day last Saturday was #AccelerateAction and across the past week the Sacred Heart community has proudly acknowledged and celebrated the day. Whether that be our Mentors' Breakfast with our past students, The STRIVE panel, student leaders selling badges with proceeds going to the work of the RNDM sisters, prayers in the bulletin or playing empowering female songs in the courtyard at lunchtime, it was well and truly acknowledged and celebrated.
As a girls’ school we are committed to providing our students with role models who inspire and empower them to face their futures with optimism and confidence and striving to make a difference in the world. And whilst this permeates all areas of our community every day, days such as these are an opportunity to spotlight some of the issues and challenges girls and women across the globe are still experiencing.
This year’s theme #AccelerateAction focussed on gender inequality and the statistic that full gender parity globally will not be achieved until 2158 if the current rate of progress continues. We hope that days such as this empowers our students to be advocates for those who don’t have a voice and speak out against injustices.
